Qualifications:
*Between the age of 18 to 27 (applicants will be asked to show proof of age with ID)
*Females: 5’5” and up, evenly proportioned, in good shape and clear complexion
*Males: 5’6” and up, evenly proportioned, in good shape, and clear complexion
*LITTLE to NO experience, undiscovered talent (professional models will be disqualified)
*All ethnicities welcomed
*Must be an Ohio resident
*Models MUST be available January 13th-17th 2007
*Finalist must be available for ALL face-to-face interviews (with a FULL JUDGE PANEL) and sessions (you are welcomed to bring a guest)
*ALL applicants MUST provide the minimum materials as listed for each entry to be considered (all materials become property of Style-ology LLC and will NOT be returned):

Male Modeling: Kellan Lutz

Kellan Lutz was born and raised North Dakota, the city didn’t have much to do besides playing games at the local arcade, hunting, or sledding in the snow. Although Kellan Lutz had a simple country upbringing he has done more in 21 years than most people ever do in a lifetime. He enjoys sky diving, parasailing, motor cross and white water rafting.

Kellan Lutz’s family moved to Arizona when he was 14. Kellan is the middle child of six brothers and one sister. After finishing high school Kellan he decided to not go to college and to instead go into modeling and acting. His family was not supportive of his decision, however they have since changed their opinions on this as he has always been working since his move to Los Angeles. As a Male Model he was on the cover of the Abercrombie & Fitch summer catalogue, and starred in a series of Levi's Jean ads.

Kellan Lutz’s first television opportunity was for CBS, in the recurring role of Rob on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. He has also starred in HBO's, "The Comeback," opposite Lisa Kudrow, Kellan has also starred in Disney's "Stick It," in the Universal feature "Accepted", and in the films "Deep Winter" and "The Tribe".

Male Modeling: Manhunt

Did you tune into Manhunt this season on the Bravo Channel? Manhunt: The Search for America's Most Gorgeous Male Model turned America on to the world of male modeling by focusing the camera on the ever neglected world of male models with the first-ever search for the hottest male model. Unsuspecting men were plucked from the streets and invited to participate in a series of challenges to determine who had the looks, style, stamina and charisma to be a male supermodel. Manhunt: Consisted of eight, one-hour episodes and followed twenty men as scouts plucked them from America's streets, bars, gyms and colleges to see if they had the look, the fire and the style to be a model. Once chosen, the finalists travel around the United States to compete against each other in a series of challenges.

The winner received $100,000 for their modeling career. Jon Grimkell Helga came out on top as the winning male model in the Manhunt Competition. He was born in Reykjavik, Iceland on June 23, 1982. His family lived in New York and Colorado, they arrived in California when Jon was in the seventh grade. Jon enjoyed surfing, playing piano, clarinet, baritone and guitar. He has a special girlfriend that means the world to him. He studies Astrophysics at UC Santa Cruz.

Jason Shaw grew up in Chicago, Illinois. He has two older brothers and one younger sister. Jason Shaw attended The University of Chicago and obtained a degree in history.

A ProScout Event was held in Chicago and Jason joined. He was the only male model selected out of many competitors. Jason Shaw signed with a agency in New York. His first break was with Abercrombie and Fitch.

Jason Shaw went on to land modeling jobs with Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, Calvin Klein, AB’95, Giani, Versace, Lacoste, Karl Lanerfield Frangrances, Ralph Lauren and GAP. He also walked in runways in Milan, Paris and New York.

Jason Shaw has become one of the most asked for male models. What is so special about Jason is his clean cut and very masculine face; he also has very sexy blue eyes. Jason a huge number of fans every where.

John Passavant has been modeling off and on since 1999. This 22 year old male model is an Estee Lauder favorite. He was born and raised in Pittsburg. John Passavant graduated from college with a degree in business communication. He says if he doesn’t enter the corporate world one day he may become a minister like his father.

John Passavant was a skinny child with braces and glasses until high school. He started working out and everything improved from then on.

John Passavant can be seen in ads for Arnani, Abercrombie and Fitch and Estee Lauder. He is the official male spokesman for Estee Lauder’s new scent, Beyond Paradise. This is only the second time in Estee Lauder’s history that they have has an official male spokesman. This will also be the largest campaign that Estee Lauder has ever done in the men’s category. This will be great move for John’s career.

John Passavant has said that he doesn’t date around. He has never dated a model, and any woman he is in a relationship with has to be really confident and not be threatened by his job. He has only has a couple relationships. John Passavant says if he wasn’t a model he would probably be in the armed forces.

Ryan Daharsh first became a male model for a store called Hollister. He also modeled for the stores catalog. That is how Abercrombie and Fitch discovered him. Abercrombie and Fitch’s head of marketing Ryan Scott spotted Ryan in the catalog and asked Ryan to model for them. Ryan plans to model for Abercrombie has long as they continue to call him.

When male model Ryan Daharsh isn’t modeling he likes to spend his free time watching movies, playing play station, motor cross, and lifting weights. Ryan is 6ft 1 and 180 lbs. You can bet he gets a lot of attention from females. All one has to do is look at him to see why.

Why are there no plus size male models?

You see, it is true that in the male modeling industry when it comes to males, its mostly about the male body. Why are there no plus size male models?

When was the belly not hot? Yhat is why women own the modeling industry... because they have the option of variety. That sucks!

As a male model, are you gay yet?

Why are 80% of male models gay? You know why?

Cause i do.

Because the male modeling industry is so competitive. Male models are constantly comparing themselves to other male models who might just look a little better and with that your constantly in competition with other male models.

This means you have men on the brain. lol

I am whiling out but anyway... its true if you are constantly around the same sex and to top it off you in competition with your looks your falling into a female genre and thats why most male models are feminine, flamboyant, and ...gay.

Nicholas Lemons: Can tattoos make or break male models?

First I want to start by saying modeling is an art.

Now, today’s discussion: can a tattoo make or break your career in modeling? Well I think it can broaden a male model's career.

For example, the Armani model NICHOLAS LEMONS this guy's whole right side is covered in tats and the most known tat he has is the wing on the right side of his chest. Which Armani always seems to show that side of his profile in pictures. So he made it his trade mark.

Movie Zoolander: Not Originally a Movie

The movie Zoolander which is about a self obsessed male model was originally a short film featured at the 1996 VH1 Fashion Awards. It was such a big hit at the 1996 Fashion Awards that it became a movie. It was half written by Ben Stiller and Drake Sather, and directed by Russell Bates.

Askmen.com talks about how male models don’t make as much as female models do. Askmen.com states, “Although the market has grown for men, women dominate the industry and probably always will.” There are a lot of male models out there but only a few that come to mind on a first name basis. As for female models, there are a lot of models you can name off the top of your head. Unfortunately for the boys, this is just one industry where girls will always rule!

The Straight on the Gay Advertising Controversy

Advertising is one of the biggest factors for any product’s success, so why not include all target audiences, even “the gays”?

Hai Ben Shushan was recently named “Man of the Year” (2003) for Israeli Magazine and can be found in many fashion photographs, including covers for magazines and even a project in Vogue! But a recent ad which featured him endorsing condoms, was condemned in Tel Aviv due to his sexual prefrence! The public transportation company, Dan Bus, refused public display of the ad. They obviously felt that, as a major company, transporting over 600,000 thousand citizens on a daily basis, supporting a gay advertisement would be entirely to risky.

Such controversy is not limited to foreign places. It has also been prevalent right here in the United States of America! BMW, Subaru, and Volvo have all encountered relevant issues, but each practiced varied approaches. Subaru and Volvo have both embraced the gay community by creating advertisements aimed directly at their audience. On the other hand, BMW refuses to follow the open-minded techniques. Despite their marketing in the gay communities, the BMW North America company is unwilling to provide domestic-partner benefits for their GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender) Employees.

Such actions by any country proves that no matter how popular a celebrity may be, or how good or educational the cause may be, if it is too risky or does not embody what a general society deems appropriate, they may face prejudice.

Male Modeling & Acting: Audition Notices Often Are Vague

Whenever a male model who wants to act receives a casting notice or audition notice, the producers put very little information in the audition notice about the production. They might provides "sides" - which are lines actors read at auditions.

Usually, they only list a short amount info for each character they are casting.

For example: "Teddy, 18-24 male, caucasian. Frat boy type. Teddy is the high school jock who learns a lesson about respect after his father dies"

That's it. That is all an actor has to draw upon.

Trouble is: insecure actors and models always ask for more info before they proceed - wanting more details. They say: "I will call you later to get more information".

However, there is no more info.

Producers do not have a vested interest in telling their competition about their production or print campaign - just to "convince" an actor to submit initial pics. If talent do not want to do the job, they can turn it down later - after the producer tells them more about the role.

If you are a beginning actor or model, submit for the role and decide the details later. Asking for details early on makes more work for your agent or manager - and he is likely to tend to push roles in the future to actors who do not make extra work for him.

The male underwear industry has grown substantially since the days when Calvin Klein billboards stopped traffic in New York's Time Square. Many small manufacturers now offer underwear that ranges from strictly utilitarian briefs to elaborate undies that rival Michael Jackson's wardrobe.

Some are pricey and some are cheap and packaging runs the gamut from sexually titilating (obviously aimed at wives and girlfriends who are shopping for their mates) to blue-collar basics (favorites of the white socks and cigars crowd).

Campus Men, a calendar and male modeling resource company that has been making good looking college guys famous since 1990, was amused by the variations it found in male underwear marketing. Photo editors had shopped department stores, closeout bins and dime stores to find the perfect skivvies for Campus Men photo shoots. After seeing such a range of choices, they decided to sponsor a hunt to find the most amusing packaging, as well as packaging that shows the best in marketability.

Lightweight boards covered with reflective metallic material are often used at Campus Men's photo shoots as the main light source that lights a male model.

Staff or other male models are often called upon to stand with the board at a particular angle and reflect light from the sun onto the male model. The person holding a reflector board has an important role in the photo shoot. Since the light reflected from the boards is the main source of light for the photo shoot, whomever holds the boards must stand at that exact position throughout the photo shoot, or the photographs can be incorrectly exposed, and possibly ruined.

Male Modeling is not the same as male fitness modeling

The male fitness modeling industry is vastly different from men's fashion modeling and offers a more opportunities to "break in". While male fashion modeling is centered around the power of fashion designers, fitness modeling is driven by supplement manufacturers and fitness magazines, with some big name clients such as Nike.

If you think about it, male fashion models show off clothing, and male fitness models? ...They show off muscles.

So, if you are having trouble getting your first big (or medium sized) modeling break in fashion, consider tryin a fitness modeling job as a way to network your way into high fashion.

Male fitness modeling pays much less than high fashion, but is at least some step toward "being discovered." Because any exposure is better than being an unknown in a small town... and there are not many high powered modeling agents hanging out at your gym.

Newmodels.com offers a great explanation of what "mother agents" are, why they are needed by new male models to be placed with good modeling agencies and why a male model almost always needs new modeling photographs once the mother agent places him with a booking agency. Remember, your original photos get your placed with an modeling agency who can actually get you work. Then the modeling agency needs new photos because they know what their market and clients want. So, your initial modeling photos were not actually worthless.

Never screw over the people who got you started just because you meet a fast talking modeling agent talks bad about a mother agent from your hometown. You always meet the same people going down as you did going up in your career! Plus, you can never have too many friends in the modeling industry.

Modeling Agencies who advertise for new male models are often scams

It doesn't pay to sign up with modeling agencies that advertise a need for male models.

Do you see that ad every day? Why would any organization advertise for male models in a newspaper's classified section each and every day? Why would they want an unlimited number of people to respond to their ads? Remember, it takes months to develop a male model's career. So, if they key accepting new guys, they we be continually developing new careers and never earning efficient revenue from the developed talent.

There are not enough male modeling jobs in a small market such as the midwest to support thousands or even hundreds of eager people who respond to open ads. For example, if a modeling agency accepts two applicants a day for five days a week, for 52 weeks a year, they would have 730 male models!

While a legitimate modeling agency will always be adding a few new male models to its rolls, it will not be to their advantage to accept every applicant. They are too busy booking their experienced male models to interview and groom hundreds of inexperienced young guys!

All the cities combined in a midwestern state do not have a fashion talent booking market comparable to New York, Miami or Milan. Midwestern male models must compete for a limited number of male modeling jobs. While a male model in the Midwest can use professional male modeling as a way to supplement regular income, chances are it will take him a long time to earn enough to return a $450-$800 initial investment in expensive portfolios.

Modeling Conventions in small cities get guys hopes up

Male modeling conventions hold "open calls" to locate people and select a "few" prospects. This makes young guys get their hopes up - with the aim of getting their wallets open. Organizers tell the "finalists" that they need to pay a $600 fee to attend a modeling convention featuring big city male modeling agents brought in from larger markets.

Modeling agents from top modeling agencies in larger cities attend these conventions because they get a free vacation out of it. They rarely choose young guys from these modeling conventions.

Potential male models can reach the same agents simply by mailing simple modeling photos to the agents' home offices. (A directory of male modeling agencies in the U.S. can be purchased from Peter Glenn Publications by calling 1-800-223-1254.) If a modeling agent is interested, he or she will fly the prospect in for an interview.

The bigger question is if you are willing to leave your job at Target and your girlfriend to go live in New York or Los Angeles to pursue a modeling career?

Small-time Modeling Agencies Sucker Young Guys into Assembly Line Shoots

Some modeling agencies in small markets who make their money off naive young guys may fly in a male model photographer from a major market such as New York or Los Angeles to impress naive young guys who want to model. The modeling agency pays the photographer $25 - $100 to photograph multiple male model. However, the agency charges the male model $400-$450 for the shoot. Male models are hurriedly photographed with a dozen or more other guys during a short period of time. This leaves little time for special attention to any one male model.

A good modeling portfolio includes different styles of photographs created by different male model photographers. Photographs in a portfolio should not all be photos from the same model photographer.

True Life: I'm moving to New York

If any of you guys watched MTV's show True Life: I'm moving to New York, you probably saw the dumb aspiring model name Josh. Josh was an aspiring model from Wausau, Wisconsin that had an agent in New York.

There are many male models who would have jumped at the opportunities that Josh was offered. But unfortunately some guys are not as smart and appreciative as others. Throughout the whole show, Josh does many stupid things that makes you just want to slap him. One of the idiotic things he did was fall asleep in a restaurant which caused him to be late for a modeling booking. Who on earth does that!? It's one thing to over sleep -- but to fall asleep in a restaurant... that is just ridiculous!

Then he had an opportunity to model in Milan, but couldn't because he had traffic warrants. So he had to remain in Wisconsin. Now if that is not dumb... what is?

What coulda Been: Tyson Beckford

Did you know male supermodel Tyson Beckford was considered to play Angela Bassett's "kept" young man in the movie "How Stella Got Her Groove Back"? The movie was which is based on the author Terry McMillan's real life story on how she found love in Jamaica with a man 20 years her junior. Many say that this role launched the career of the actor Taye Diggs, who played Bassett's sexy Jamaican love interest. Although Tyson has appeared in several movies, he hasn't received a role that would elevate him to the leading man category. That could be because of the stereotype that goes along with modeling -- which is: Models can't do anything but look pretty. But... if Tyson would have landed the role, he might have been able to crush that myth.

Boobermodels?

E television and VH1 have both named Gisele Bunchen the hottest supermodel. Gisele beat out some of the biggest names in the fashion industry like Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, Heidi Klum, Adriana lima, Claudia Schiffer, Helena Christensen, and many other well known supermodels. Gisele is also the highest paid supermodel to date. E was quoted as saying that Gisele is so hot that she should not be referred to as a supermodel but at a Boobermodel.

Is Gisele the new Cindy? And will there be any newcomers that receive the same amount of exposure and money that Gisele is getting? Will there be a brand new group of models to bring back the "supermodel" age? And if so, we will start calling them "boobermodels" instead of the term we usually call them which is ... Supermodel?!

Who knows!

Only time will tell! I guess we will all have to stay tuned and see!
