Where to Find Models

Models sure are popular, that is for sure. Many fans of models are seeking to "Google" them and find out information - about all the faces they see in magazines and billboards.

But, sometimes professionals want to find models - new faces - to "become" models.

Everyone these days assumes the Internet is the only way to find potential models. But, the good old-fashion meeting a fresh face in person can supply much better results for a professional. Check out this article on where to find models. It tells professionals to go out - usually on a college campus - and simply walk up to students... and ask them if they want to become models!

What is Background Footage?

One of the best-kept secrets on how to get in the movies is to get a job that allows you to be in the background of a movie scene. Surprisingly, it is easy to get into a movie this way!

In some cases, a production (such as an interview) need non-speaking video footage to use while an announcer talk "over" the video footage. Here, a male model explains what it was like to film background footage and that it was surprisingly hard for him to "act" like he was talking.

Firefighter Workouts

You may want to be a male model, but would you like to have the endurance of a hero? Or at least look like a hero?

Firefighter Workouts are unique to other workouts because they are designed to train people to move rapidly while burdened by carrying 60-80 pounds of equipment. (Just imagine how heavy an oxygen tank and other gear is when walking up stairs - remember, in a fire situation, elevators do not function.)

That is where a firefighter workout comes in. The folks at Workouts4Men have compiled a list of all the firefighter workouts in book and DVD form, along with one piece of gear that is a must-have if you want a truly authentic firefighter routine. Hint: It is very heavy to ship.

How to Build Chest Muscles

For those aspiring male models who may want to make themselves more marketable for modeling jobs, we suggest building a little muscle. Many aspiring male models are only concerned with being skinny (they call it lean) and having abs. Abs are great to have, but your other muscle groups help you better fill out clothing on the runway. And the chest muscle is a priority muscle to build. We've complied all our advice on how to build a nice chest in one article.

In the article, we recommend a book that includes something surprising: The book shows you how exercising your back can help build six-pack abs, too.

Check out our advice on How to Build Chest Muscles and good luck to transforming your body!

How to Get a Bigger Back

Ever wonder how some males can fill out a shirt nicely - while other guys can wear the same shirt and not look as good? Often this is because one model has a bigger back than the other.

Fitting a shirt and looking good often depends on both the cut (the style) of the shirt as well as the body structure of the model.

One of the best things a new model can do to create a "V" look when wearing clothes is to lift weights to get a bigger back. We have compiled some advice and supplies new models need to order from Amazon to start building their back muscles. Take a look and tell us what you think. Leave a comment. Do you think the slender look is best for male models, or do you think the wider "V" back is better?

Check out our advice on How to Get a Bigger Back here.

Name Recognition

We recently spoke with a top photographer who was casting a major advertising campaign. It paid very well.

The photographer was waiting for his connection in a Minneapolis airport and opened a local magazine and saw a local model who would be perfect for his ad campaign. Unfortunately, the page did not list the model's name.

The photographer returned to Los Angeles and made an effort to contact the business who had placed the ad. The photographer send two emails and left a voicemail with the company stating that he wanted to hire the "model shown in your ad."

The company never returned the photographer's calls or emails, so he had to hire some other model for his ad campaign.

So, there is some broke guy somewhere in Minneapolis who has no idea that he missed out on a trip to Los Angeles, a lot of money and a chance to go on to bigger and better things - because he forgot to ask the company who ran the ad - to list his name in the ad.

We think name recognition is a top priority when starting out as a new model, new actor, or any field that requires notoriety or name recognition. We have written some advice for new people seeking to get their careers started. We show you how to ask for your name to be published and what to say to build name recognition.

What do you think? Have you wondered who the model was who appeared in an ad? have you ever anted to offer a modeling job to a model, but been unable to know his or her name? Leave your comments and stories. We'd love to hear!

Become a Model Agent

We often receive emails from energetic people who want to know how to become a modeling agent. Do you take a course? is there a license?

Times are changing and modeling agencies are increasingly seen as "the middle man" that can be bypassed and eliminated. Agencies offer importance when it comes to billing, but many aspiring models are booking themselves directly with clients - rather than expend energies to get accepted into an agency.

Surprisingly, it is what you bring to the table. Do you have any skills that an agency can use? Read how to become a model agent. It is not as difficult as you may assume!

Tell us what you think. Can you find the type of fresh faces that would establish you as a top-not model scout? Where do good-looking potential models hang out?

Dumbbell Exercises for Aspiring Models

Going to the gym to lift weights and get a developed six pack is an everyday requirement for male models. However, with Auditions, call-backs, day jobs, testing with photographers and general hussling for the next modeling job, sometimes it is difficult to get to the gym.

This is where dumbbell exercises can help. With a basic set of dumbbells, it is possible to maintain a workout plan whenever a model cannot hit the gym.

Usually a model can get a basic workout in with only 35 pound, 40 and 50 pound dumbbells.

Check out our list of dumbbell exercises here.

Are there exercises that you find get better results? Give your feedback on what you experience with dumbbell exercises.

It's hard out here for a... Male Model?

Have you ever heard the saying, "It's hard out here for a pimp". Whoever thought that up was on some good drugs and quite mistaken. What he should have said was, "Its hard out here for a male model". Honestly, male models have it twice as hard then females. The whole weight thing has to be ten times more difficult and a million times more complicated. You can't send out an anorexic looking male model and get positive results, he might even get laughed at. Male models have a double standard because even though they have to be thin, they still have to keep up with their masculine features- to a limit. Male models have to be toned, and muscular- but not to muscular, (no one wants a body building Arnold Schwarzenegger look-a-like) because they still have to be thin and presentable. Some one too strong is intimidating and it might make viewers fill uncomfortable. O! and FYI the clothes probable wouldn't fit. Just thinking about it sounds so exhausting. I'd simply give up, or have a sex change.
For women its so much easier: the thinner the better or go plus size, but for Men being thin is crucial but its so much more than just loosing weight and having a slim figure. Most men can appreciate a healthy individual with a muscular body because with male modeling- its all about the right body type. Designers, when hiring models, are after more than just a pretty faced because, believe me sweet heart, the face can be fixed. Designers need a specific body type that fits the "look" they need to portray. For some designers the whole, "I'm on crack and haven't eaten a week" "look"... might work. For other designers the tanned, great abs, beach boy look is essential. The list goes on and on. Just exactly how do male models know what to expect when going to casting call? One should ask himself, "Today, am I going to be a tall, skinny preppy boy, or am i going to be the rough, muscular gangster that no one wants to mess with?" Who's ever going to know?
At that note, what goes the universal man look like? Who does every man want to be like? E-mail me ASAP if you have these answers at i_smiile@yahoo.com . Then after you tell me about Mr. Ideally Universal I'll be sure to research the statistics of how many men in America, or across the world for that matter that actually have these characteristics. I'll take a wild guess now and say that not many men can look at what Mr. Universal is and say, " Hey that's me!"

Male Modeling: Kellan Lutz

Kellan Lutz was born and raised North Dakota, the city didn’t have much to do besides playing games at the local arcade, hunting, or sledding in the snow. Although Kellan Lutz had a simple country upbringing he has done more in 21 years than most people ever do in a lifetime. He enjoys sky diving, parasailing, motor cross and white water rafting.

Kellan Lutz’s family moved to Arizona when he was 14. Kellan is the middle child of six brothers and one sister. After finishing high school Kellan he decided to not go to college and to instead go into modeling and acting. His family was not supportive of his decision, however they have since changed their opinions on this as he has always been working since his move to Los Angeles. As a Male Model he was on the cover of the Abercrombie & Fitch summer catalogue, and starred in a series of Levi's Jean ads.

Kellan Lutz’s first television opportunity was for CBS, in the recurring role of Rob on the soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. He has also starred in HBO's, "The Comeback," opposite Lisa Kudrow, Kellan has also starred in Disney's "Stick It," in the Universal feature "Accepted", and in the films "Deep Winter" and "The Tribe".
